British 1845 / 1892 Pattern Edward VII Army Medical Corps Officer’s Sword with Dress and Service Scabbards

$775.00

The straight sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 4o inches. The blade is generally very bright, with some dark spots scattered on both sides towards the tip. The blade is superbly etched on both sides, with one side bearing the royal cypher of King Edward VII (who was on the throne from the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 until his own death in 1910), while the opposite side of the blade has the etched insignia of the Royal Army Medical Corps (which has had within its ranks a total of 31 recipients of the Victoria Cross). The ricasso is etched with the name of the London retailer of the sword. The brass basket hilt is pierced in design and also has the cypher of Edward VII. The ray skin covered grip remains tightly wrapped in wire. The grip covering shows age and spots of wear, but it is intact. The guard, backstrap, and pommel all show an uncleaned patina. The leather sword knot remains tied to the guard and, while the knot shows age, it remains supple. The sword is within its nickel plated dress scabbard, which has some relatively minor spots of wear, but with the nickel plating being largely intact beneath a patina. The sword is also accompanied by its leather covered combat and service scabbard. Overall excellent condition.
