Attributed WWII U.S. Marine Corps Officer Visor Cap

$275.00

The white body of the cap exhibits typical age toning and surface soiling, but it is without holes or damage. The front peak carries a screw back sterling silver eagle, globe and anchor officer insignia which is maker marked by the firm of Hilborn-Hamburger. The full leather sweatband is intact on the interior. The celluloid sweat shield is also present, maker marked and toned with age. The cap is tagged as a size 7. Tucked into the sweatband of the cap is the old business card of a mlitaria dealer in North Carolina which, on the reverse side, attributes the cap to “Ruford P. Covington, Jr.”, a Marine Corps aviator from Charlotte, North Carolina, who was missing in action in the Pacific Theater in 1944 and who was declared to have been killed in action one year later. The cap is in very good condition.
