Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword
$1,150.00
World War II period Japanese Imperial Army officer’s sword. The blade is approximately 26 inches long, with an overall length of approximately 38 inches when within the scabbard. The wooden handle is covered in ray skin and wrapped with fabric in the traditional fashion. The standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms are beneath the wrap. The sword has a dark brown painted scabbard that shows wear, use and a few small dents, and on which the original paint is approximately 80% intact. There is a decorative pierced brass metal tsuba with a relief cherry blossom pattern. The blade is stainless steel with no edge nicks and no active rust, although there are a number of dark spots on each side of the blade. The straight temper line remains visible. The blade has some relatively light scratches in the surface. Overall the blade is in good condition. The tang beneath the handle is signed.
