Army Officer Panther Head Sword by Anton Wingen

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 38 inches, with a blade length of approximately 31 inches. The blade shows spots, some subtle scratches, and surface grime, but it is very bright and shows a mirror finish along its length. The ricasso bears the Anton Wingen name and mark beneath the reverse langet. The pommel is a finely detailed panther head with red glass eyes. The top pommel screw was hand finished to blend it with the fur of the panther’s head. The back strap and the knuckle guard both have fine oak leaf designs. Much of the pommel and guard exhibit an uncleaned patina, with some wear to the finish on the reverse langet. The celluloid grip is without chips or cracks and it remains tightly triple wrapped with wire. The scabbard has scuffs, scratches, and spots of wear to the gloss black paint. Overall the sword is quite impressive and it is in excellent condition.
