7th Westphalian Jäger Bn Double Engraved M1871 Bayonet

Model 1871 Imperial German bayonet with double engraved plated blade. The bayonet hilt and the upper scabbard fitting are unit marked to the 7th Westphalian Jger Battalion. The blade has an engraving on one side identifying the unit, and on the other side the “In remembrance of my service” engraving, with a portrait of Kaiser Wilhelm II in profile.
The pommel and cross guard are nickle plated, as are the scabbard mounts. The quill back blade, also nickel plated, is 19 1/2 inches long. The plating is in excellent condition, with only a few small spots of lifting on the guard in the area of the unit markings. Overall length of 25 3/4 inches. The black leather scabbard is in excellent condition with only minor scuff marks. There has been slight shrinkage of the leather so that the bayonet extends 1/2 inch out of the scabbard when sheathed. Checkered black bakelite grips in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The obverse ricasso is stamped with a king’s head on the left and a knight’s head on the right. Below this are the firms initials, W.K.&C.. This trademark was used during the 1890s (Kaiser Wilhelm II ascended the throne in 1888).
An exceptionally impressive engraved bayonet in beautiful condition.
