26th Division WWI / Mexican Border Service Medals and Insignia Group

The group is comprised of the medals and insignia of Sergeant Daniel J. Dowd who served in France with the 103rd Ambulance Company of the 101st Sanitary Train of the 26th Division. The group includes the Mexican Border Service Medal, full wrap brooch suspension, with the edge numbered “30478” (Dowd served on the Mexican Border as a mechanic with Ambulance Company Number 2 of the Massachusetts National Guard); the World War I Victory Medal, re-ribboned on a full wrap brooch, with the bars “Champagne-Marne”; “Aisne-Marne”; “St. Mihiel”; “Meuse-Argonne”; and “Defensive Sector”. The medal shows a dark and uncleaned patina. The group also includes a “40 and 8” society medal as well as a medal of the Yankee Division Veterans Association. Also with the group is a multi piece wool 26th Division shoulder patch, a wool Sergeant chevron, and a small 26th Division enamel lapel badge. Also with the group are photocopies of two newspaper articles regarding Dowd’s service and post-war activities. Overall the items in the group are in very good condition.
