19th Century Bronze War of 1812 Medal Commemorating Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry and the Battle of Lake Erie

The bronze medal produced by the US Mint, chocolate brown in color, is approximately 2-1/2 inches in diameter. The medal commemorating the Battle of Lake Erie on 10 September, 1813, was one of a series of 27 medals honoring American successes during the War of 1812. Those medals were struck by special resolution of Congress, and the medals were awarded to naval commanders in gold and to their officers in silver. The deep brown medals were produced in the 19th Century, gold colored versions were produced in the 20th Century. Excellent condition.
