1943 Dated Japanese Navy Kai Gunto Sword Signed Yoshishige With Leather Combat Cover & Knot

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 37-1/2 inches, with a blade length of approximately 23-1/8 inches. The bright blade shows a few small areas of discoloration, and is without chips, nicks, or  rust. The blade has visible and distinct wavy temper line. The tang exhibits a film of rust and it bears the signature Yoshishige and is dated 1943. The grip is wrapped in the traditional fashion in dark brown fabric over black ray skin, with the standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms beneath the wrapping on each side. The scabbard is wood with black lacquer. The black leather combat cover on the scabbard shows typical scuffs and abrasions from use in the field, but it is complete and intact. Looped through the upper scabbard ring is a brown silk sword knot in very good condition. Overall excellent condition.
