1925 Bavarian 1st Schweres Reiter-Regiment Cavalry Commemorative Wedding Stein
$295.00
The 1 liter stoneware stein is approximately 8 inches tall, exclusive of the thumb lift. The stein features the Bavarian crest, the date of 1896, and the declaration of “Vereinig Ehemal. Kürassiere u. Schwerer Reiter v. Regts. P.C. v. B”. The stein is named to “Georg Mühlbauer”. The relief lid features the Munich child and the Frauenkirche, the Munich Church formally known as “The Cathedral of Our Dear Lady”. The two towers of the cathedral form the thumb lift. The stein commemorates the 1st Schweres Reiter-Regiment (Heavy Cavalry Regiment) “Prinz Carl of Bavaria” in Munich. The regiment had been formed in 1814 as te Garde du Corps of the King of Bavaria, and it was disbanded in 1919. Around the edge of the lid is engraved “Zum Hochzeitsfeste 1925” (“To the Wedding Party 1925”), indicating that the stein, commemorating one of Bavaria’s most famed cavalry regiments, was given to members of a wedding party in 1925. In all likelihood the wedding involved a member of that regiment who gave the stein as a gift to a comrade who was in the wedding party. The stein is in near mint condition without chips or cracks.
