1917 Dated Model 1902 U.S. Army Officer Presentation Sword to a Woman by Weyersberg

$400.00

The Model 1902 U.S. Army Officer sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 38 inches long. The scabbard bears the engraved dedication of “Presented / To Major Dorothy Russell O’Reilly / As a token of esteem by the enlisted personal of Troop H / First Penna Cavy / August 15, 1917”. The blade is quite clean, showing spots and scratches but making a fine appearance. The blade has etcheddesigns on both sides for about half the length of the blade, with “U.S.” and American eagle designs. The ricasso bears the king’s head logo of the Weyersberg firm. The leather washer is in place at the top of the ricasso, with some rust evident where the ricasso reaches the guard. The wood grip shows some relatively minor wear to the black paint. The nickel plated guard, ferrule, back strap and pommel all show an uncleaned patina. The nickel plated scabbard similarly shows uncleaned patina and verdigris, with wear, speckling, and spots of plating loss on the scabbard. The throat of the scabbard has the number “22” impressed into the scabbard throat. Overall very good condition. Dorothy Russell O’Reilly was the only daughter of famed American actress Lillian Russel.
