1914 Iron Cross Second Class by Sy-Wagner with Capture Note from British Brigadier General D Baird

The Iron Cross has intact paint on the iron core with uncleaned patina on the silver frame. The suspension ring bears the mark of “S-W”, reflecting production by the firm of Sy-Wagner. The medal is on a length of clean ribbon, and it is contained within a medal case bearing the name of the London medals firm of Spink & Son. Inside of the case is a handwritten note attesting to the capture of the “German Iron Cross From Br Genl D. Baird”, giving the location and the date of “5th August 1917”. The Iron Cross is in excellent condition. The note shows age but it is intact.
