The sword bayonet has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 26-1/2 inches. The blade shows spots as well as surface grime. The ricasso bears the name of the Alexander Coppel firm. The spine bears the date of “05”. The wood grip plates exhibit age as well as typical pock marks from carrying in the field, but they are complete and intact. Both the guard and the pommel show spots and uncleaned patina. The pommel has waffen amt markings at the top edge. One side of the guard has the unit designation of “117 R. 8.164”, while the scabbard throat has the unit marking of “20 R. 8.88”. The scabbard leather is somewhat dry, showing scuffs and a separation of the seam on the rear, but the scabbard remains complete and intact.
