1798 Pattern Scottish Infantry Officer Broadsword

$1,550.00

This 1798 pattern broadsword features a single-fuller, spear point, blade that is approximately 33 1/4 inches long. The hilt is a brass basket hilt which gives the sword an overall length of approximately 39 3/4 inches. The wooden grip was originally covered in black leather which remains approximately 60% intact. The wire wrapping on the grip is still present. The leather washer is also still in place just beneath the guard. A piece of green velvet was placed on top of the grip beneath the pommel cap, which also is still in place. The sword blade exhibits gray areas and surface rust, but there are no nicks or breaks.
The 1798 pattern sword was carried by the officers of the Highland Regiments during the Napoleonic War, including at the battle of Waterloo.
