Cased 1914 Iron Cross Second Class Marked “LW” (Louis Werner, Berlin)

The lid of the case bears the design of the Iron Cross and the statement “Dank des Vaterlandes” (With the thanks of the Fatherland). The interior has recessed sections for the ribbon and for the cross.  The lid interior lining bears the statement “Zur Erinnerung an Deutschlands grosse zeit” (In remembrance of Germany’s great era”). The cross is in very fine condition, with intact paint and a dark, uncleaned patina to the silver frame. The suspension ring is marked “LW”. The case shows only minor scuffing.
