Imperial Japanese Army Tokyo Arsenal Type 25 Cavalry Sword

The Type 25 cavalry sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 37 inches, with a blade length of approximately 30 1/2 inches. The matte finish blade is clean, with typical spots. The ricasso bears the serial number of “15383”. The wood grip is without chips or cracks. The pommel, back strap and guard all show a fine, old patina. The underside of the grip shows the cannonball mark of the Tokyo Arsenal. The steel scabbard is somewhat gray, with two minor indentations that do not affect the ability to draw or sheath the sword. The back strap has a fully functioning release button to enable the sword to be drawn from the scabbard. The Type 25 cavalry sword was introduced in 1892, only to be replaced just seven years later in 1899 with the introduction of the Type 32 cavalry sword. It has been estimated that only about 17,000 of these Type 25 swords were produced before the introduction of the Type 32 as its replacement. Overall this Type 25 cavalry sword is in very good to excellent condition.
