WWII USS Wasmuth Pearl Harbor Attack Ship Cap

$195.00

A World War II U.S. Navy seaman’s cap with the named ship’s cap tally of the destroyer USS Wasmuth. The Wasmuth was in port at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. During the attack the Wasmuth engaged the attacking Japanese aircraft, being credited with destroying one and damaging others, before getting under way and putting out to sea. In late 1942 the Wasmuth sunk off the coast of Alaska when depth charges that were wrenched from its deck in a storm detonated beneath its hull. The cap is in overall excellent condition. It has an interior size tag of 7 1/8. The front of the interior leather sweatband has the initials of “M.L.Z.” while the name of “Mary Lou” and a town are written beneath the sweatband, likely the name of the sailor’s wife or sweetheart.
