Third Reich Police Bayonet with Frog by Alcoso
$525.00
Third Reich period Police bayonet which was modified from a loner, Weimar-period, clamshell bayonet. The blade is approximately 13 inches long. The obverse is marked with the famous scales logo of the firm, as well as the intials ACS. The reverse also has the Scales as well as the full name of the firm, Alexander Coppel / Solingen. The blade has a number of shallow nicks along the cutting edge, but remains generally bright. The reverse crossguard is marked “S.Ar.I.637”, indicating that the bayonet was the property of the Schutzpolizei Arnsberg, precinct I, bearing property number 637. The reverse upper scabbard mount is also marked “S.Ar.I.637”, making this bayonet a rather uncommon example of one that was sent to the factory to have the clamshell removed and to be shortened, following which the factory placed the bayonet into the newly shortened scabbard using the matching fittings of the scabbrd in which the bayonet had arrived. The antler grips are a medium golden brown in color and are without cracks or chips. There is a filled hole at the bottom of the front plate where the clamshell guard was removed. The corresponding hole on the reverse plate remains open. The police grip eagle is the aluminum variety which shows some wear to the surfaces. The bayonet is within its brown leather scabbard with its original brown leather frog in place. Overall very good condition.
