WWI Army Air Service Aviator “Dallas” Pilot Wing

Full size “Dallas” style World War I Army Air Service pilot wing, with an overall width of approximately 3 1/2 inches. The wing is of exceptionally fine quality, with detailed beading to the upper and inner edges of the wings and around the central shield. “The “US” letters are crisp and uniform. The central shield and the wings are slightly domed and the wings themselves superbly detailed with respect to the feathering. The wing insignia is quite heavy, with the silver wings and shield being affixed to a black wool backing. The reverse of the wing has a heavy attachment pin with a closure that includes a drop in safety catch. Beneath the pin is a segment of black leather to protect the wool backing, a detail found on the “Dallas” wing. The entire wing has an overall toned, uncleaned patina with areas of original silver frosting.
