Waffen SS Field Gray Service Fez

A very fine example of the field gray fez worn with the service uniform by the personnel of the 13th Waffen SS Gebirgs Division “Handschar”. The fez is field gray fur felt with a multi-strand, dark green silk tassel attached to the top. The fez insignia is comprised of machine-woven SS eagle and totenkopf which are hand sewn to the fez. The interior has a leather sweatband which is machine sewn to the fez, although at the front of the fez there is a spot about 2 inches long where the machine stitching of the sweatband came loose and was period reinforced with loops of hand stitching. On the sweatband is an old label which has the handwritten notation “H. Adams Africa Korps”. There is some relatively minor moth tracking to the fez, but nothing that is particularly distracting, and the fez is in overall fine condition.
