An exceptional visor cap of a medical officer of the Imperial Japanese Navy which is piped in red above and below the black cap band. The front displays the bright gold bullion insignia of a navy officer. The visor exhibits only the most minimal age crazing. The exterior of the wool body of the cap is without holes or stains. The cap comes with its white cotton cover and that is bright and shows only minimal signs of age or wear.The interior of the cap shows some wear and it is lined in purple silk, and the lining is embroidered with kanji, undoubtedly the name of the officer who owned the cap. The use of colored branch piping by the Navy on its visor caps was a short lived practice and surviving examples of such caps are quite scarce, and this cap is extremely clean and quite impressive. The cap is contained within its original hard carrying case. The leather carrying strap from the lid of the case is broken but it is contained within the case.
