Imperial Japanese Navy Senior Rank Flag

The wool swallow tail flag used to denote the presence of an officer of senior rank in the Imperial Navy. A portion of the paper manufacturer tag remains attached to the flag. Approximately 17 by 31 inches, multi-piece wool construction. A flag of this size was likely used on a launch or small boat to indicate the presence on board of a senior officer of the Imperial Navy. There are small scattered holes in the wool, but the flag remains quite presentable.
