Signed Japanese Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword

A World War II period Japanese Imperial Army officer’s sword. The sword is signed “Nagamitsu”, this being the smith name of “Kawasaki Sen itsu” a gunto smith who was born on October 13th 1906. The blade is approximately 25 1/2 inches long, with an overall length of approximately 37 inches when within the scabbard. The wooden handle is covered in ray skin, over which it is wrapped with golden brown fabric in the traditional fashion. The standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms is beneath the wrap. The sword has a steel scabbard which is painted a medium brown and on which the paint is approximately 90% intact. There is a pierced gilt tsuba on the sword. The steel blade is bright with no chips, no edge nicks, and no active rust. There is a very nice wavy temper line which remains visible and overall the blade is in excellent condition.
