Triple Etched With Motto Imperial German Fire Police Officer Sword by J.G. Lieb
$425.00
The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 38 inches, with a blade length of approximately 32 inches. The blade shows spots and scratches but it is generally clean and bright. The blade is triple etched, with floral decorations on one side for approximately one-half the length of the blade, as well as on the spine of the blade. The opposite side of the blade shows etched floral decorations as well as the etched declaration of “Gott zur Ehr, dem Nächsten zur Wehr” (“For the honor of God, in defense of the neighbor”). The sharkskin grip exhibits relatively minor scuffs, and it remains triple wrapped with wire. The plain guard, knuckle bow and pommel all have an uncleaned patina over the nickel finish. The blade retains a leather washer at the top of the blade, with the ricasso bearing the mark of “J.G. Lieb / Biberach”. The leather scabbard has minor scuffs and scratches, whille the scabbard fittings all have an uncleaned patina which matches the patina of the hilt fittings. Founded in 1873 by Johann Georg Lieb, the J.G. Lieb Feuer-Requisiten-Fabrik became one of Imperial Germany’s premier manufacturers and outfitters of firefighting equipment. They specialized in specialized hand tools, brass helmets, safety lanterns, and uniform accoutrements for civic fire departments across Germany. Overall very good condition.
