Patriotic Russo-Japanese War Retailer Handbill

Approximately 10-1/4 inches by 15 inches. The color lithograph document is a Japanese hikifuda (promotional advertising handbill) from the Meiji period. The child, wearing a military uniform, holds a flag with the kanji meaning “prosperous commerce and celebration”. The side of the handbill is blank where it would have been customized by the merchant. The reverse side has printed kanji, apparently a design identification number for the handbill. The paper exhibits age toning and there are tiny holes in the margins, but the graphics are bright and impressive.
