Named WWI 6th Division Victory Medal, Insignia and Documents Group

The group is comprised of the Victory Medal, insignia, and documents relating the the first World War service of Constantine Alford of Company H of the 53rd Infantry Regiment of the 6th Division. The group includes Alford’s World War I Victory Medal with the clasps for “Meuse-Argonne” and “Defensive Sector”. The medal is on a full wrap brooch suspension, with the ribbon being a bit frayed at the brooch. The group includes the ribbon bar as well as the box for the Victory Medal, which is flattened but intact. Also with the group is a 6th Division shoulder patch in multi piece wool construction. A set of collar disks is made up of the “U.S.” disk and a Company “H” infantry disk, both lacking the screw backs. The group further includes Alford’s dog tags. Also in the group is a metal comb which is marked with Alford’s name and unit. The group has a number of documents relating to Alford’s World War I service to include draft registration cards; his military life insurance; his discharge and record of service document; and a map of France which appears to have hand drawn lines, presumably reflecting Alford’s movements during the war. There is a long onionskin document on which Alford apparently wrote his locations in France during the war and the dates of his presence there. Finally, the group includes a black and gold ladies garter, perhaps a memento of a particularly pleasant leave that Alford experienced while in France. Overall the items in the group are in very good condition.
