The brown wool cap shows signs of age and use, with spots, soiling, scattered small holes and tracking. The front displays the gilt eagle insignia of an officer of the United States Army. The surface of the visor shows minor spots. The interior leather sweatband is intact, as is the celluloid sweat shield, underneath which is the Bancroft label.
