WWII Japanese Soldier’s Photograph and Portrait by a Noted Artist
$275.00
The black and white photograph is approximately 9 inches by 11 inches, showing some minor tears and abrasions. The regimental number of “52” is clearly visible on the uniform collar. The oil portrait is approximately 12-1/2 inches by 16-1/8 inches. The painting is signed “Kanko” and it bears his painted seal in red with the name “Matsuura”. The reverse side of the paining shows extensive painted kanji notations which state: “Suwa City, Yamato District #71; All Japan Portrait Art Association Vice President; Matsu’ura Kankō *Painting”; S.44.1 Showa 44 [1969] January”. The painting is undated. The 1969 date on the reverse seems to catalogue the artist’s position and address at that time (Showa 44). Overall the painting is in excellent condition.
