1887 Dated Model 1884/98 Bayonet by WKC with Frog and Portepee
$250.00
The bayonet has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 15-3/4 inches. The blade surfaces exhibit small scattered spots and subtle age pitting but overall it is clean and generally bright. The ricasso bears the maker mark of the firm of Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie. The spine shows the Imperial German inspection mark as well as the date of “87”. The wood grip plates are similarly quite clean and without chips or cracks, although the grip plates have a small hole on each side just above the guard. Both the guard and the pommel have a relatively clean finish. The scabbard exhibits age and wear, with an obverse indentation which does not effect the ability to draw or sheath the bayonet. The black leather frog is manufacturer marked, with the frog being somewhat dry, but complete and intact. The original portepee is tied around the frog. Overall the bayonet is clean and it makes a very good appearance.
