1916 Dated Imperial Bavarian “Karpathenkorps” (Carpathian Corps) Feldmutze

$595.00

The exterior of the field gray wool cap exhibits age and surface soiling, but it is without holes, damage or repairs. The front displays the national colors and the Bavarian colors cockades, both of which show wear and loss of paint. Between the cockades is the badge of the “Karpathenkorps” (Carpathian Corps). The interior lining has stains as well as what apears to be a handwritten name as well as a stamp of “No. 56” and a depot stamp which includes the date of 1916. The feldmutze is in excellent field used condition.

The IV Reserve Corps was formed on the outbreak of the war in August 1914 as a part of the mobilization of the Army. It was initially commanded by General der Artillerie Hans von Gronau, who was recalled from retirement. From 24 July 1916 to 19 December 1917, the Corps was known as the “Karpathenkorps” (“Carpathian Corps”). The Corps was still in existence at the end of the war as a part of the 2nd Army, Heeresgruppe Kronprinz Rupprecht on the Western Front.
