The private purchase bayonet was designated as the “Kurzes Seitengewehr” (“Short Sidearm”), having an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 14-1/2 inches, with a blade length of approximately 10 inches. The blade is a plated sawback version which is generally bright, showing scratches and spots as well as surface grime and what appears to be old dried grease. The ricasso bears the maker mark of the firm of Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie. Both the guard and the pommel have uncleaned patina and indications of speckling of the plating. The stag grip plates are nicely toned with age and they are without chips or cracks. The scabbard has scratches to the black paint. Overall very good condition.
