The painted sand infused exterior finish is largely intact, showing typical spots and scratches from wear in the field. The front of the helmet bears a painted red “1”. The liner is intact, while the leather chin strap is broken. Affixed to the chin strap bale is an old typed tag identifying the piece as the helmet of a bandsman of the 1st Division.
