Japanese Wakizashi in Leather Combat Cover for Tank or Aviation Officers

$1,250.00

The wakizashi short sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 25 inches, with a blade length of approximately 17 inches. The Wakizashi was undoubtedly a family blade that was placed within a leather combat cover for use by an armor or aviation officer. The blade exhibits some signs of age, with scratches and spots, but it is generally quite clean and bright, while also displaying a visible and distinct temper line. The blade is secured with a decorated habaki collar at the top of the blade. The tang has a single mounting hole and it is unsigned. The grip is covered in light sharkskin, with a crack along the length on one side, and it is tightly wrapped in the traditional manner with black fabric. Beneath the fabric on each side of the grip are figural menuki. The tsuba guard is solid iron with a pierced blossom design. The scabbard is black lacquered wood within a brown leather combat cover which shows moderate scuffs and wear. There is a leather band at the base of the grip with a strap which extends through the tsuba guard and which snaps to the scabbard cover. Overall the sword is in very good condition. We photographed the sword with the retaining peg removed and it will be replaced when we ship it.
