Imperial Bavarian Artillery Officer Lion Head Sword
The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 38 inches, with a blade length of approximately 32 inches. The blade is bright, with indications of heavy sharpening on the cutting edge. Both sides bear the Imperial Bavarian motto of “In Treue Fest”. The spine bears the etched distributor name of “Jos. Vierheilig, Munchen”. The guard, knuckle bow, back strap and lion head pommel all show a dark and uncleaned patina, as well as verdigris. The pommel has dark red faceted glass eyes. The langet of the guard bears crossed artillery tubes on the obverse side. The reverse langet has an escutcheon which has the faint letters “M H”. The grip retains the sharkskin wrap with five strands of twisted brass wire remaining intact on the grip. The scabbard paint is approximately 90 percent intact, Overall very good condition.
