The Luftwaffe Honor Goblet was awarded on September 5, 1941, to Oberleutnant Jurgen Bartens for his exemplary and valorous service as a Luftwaffe aviator. The Honor Goblet has an overall height of approximately 8 inches, with a base diameter of 3-7/8 inches. The interior of the base is marked as 835 silver, with the correct silver hallmarks. It is also maker marked by the firm of “Joh. Wagner & Sohn”, the only firm that produced the Luftwaffe Honor Goblets. The goblet is without dents or damage and it exhibits a very dark and uncleaned patina. Overall excellent condition. Oberleutnant Jurgen Bartens was killed in action on May 9, 1941, while flying a mission over England, crashing at Farmhill Crossroads, Windsor Great Park, in Berkshire. He was flying as Observer on that mission. The aircraft pilot, Oberfeldwebel Franz Vornier, was also killed on the mission, and both he and Bartens were buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery in England. The remaining members of the aircraft crew became prisoners of war.
