M17 Austrian Rural Gendarmerie Helmet.

The helmet retains approximately 75 percent of its exterior field gray paint, showing typical spots, scratches and abrasions. The left side of the helmet has a flaming grenade insignia affixed to the helmet. The interior of the helmet retains the full three pad liner system, with each of the “pillows” behind the liner pads retaining their filling.  Above the liner band on the interior is written the name of the soldier who wore the helmet. The interior of the helmet shows a chin strap, with metal bales riveted to the interior sides in place of the integral attachment lugs of the Model 1916 helmet. The leather chin strap is present on the helmet and intact. Overall very good condition. The Austrian gendarmerie was a militarized police force responsible for enforcing law and order.
