WWII Japanese Army EM/NCO Canteen

The canteen is an early war example, with features which would be eliminated as the war progressed to conserve strategic materials. These include the cork stopper with a metal cap, later replaced by a wooden stopper; a leather stopper retention strap, later replaced by a fabric strap; and metal adjustment buckles on the stopper strap and the shoulder strap, later eliminated from the canteen design completely. The canteen shows some typical wear to the painted exterior, with staining of the canvas harness. Overall the canteen is in very good field used condition.
