WWII Japanese Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword in Rubberized Canvas Combat Scabbard Cover

$1,150.00

The standard issue Japanese Army officer’s sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 39 inches, with a blade length of approximately 25-1/2 inches. The sword blade is generally bright, showing some scratches and minor signs of age. The blade has a visible and distinct straight temper line. The tang shows some surface rust and it has a single mounting hole. Both sides of the tang bear painted kanji. The ray skin grip is wrapped in the traditional style with dark brown fabric. Beneath the wrapping are the standard gilt military menuki of three cherry blossoms. The tsuba guard is the solid style, with relief cherry blossoms. The scabbard is within a brown rubberized canvas combat cover which shows age and it has cracks and crazing, as well as chips to the cover. The cover has a white rectangular area which appears to be old residue from adhesive tape. The throat of the cover is secured by a boot lace. The scabbard cover is lacking the male snap for the leather closure strap.
