Old Japanese Family Blade in Type 97 Kai Gunto Navy Sword Mounts

The navy officer kai gunto sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 37 inches, with a blade length of approximately 21 inches. The old family sword blade is bright, while showing some spots and smudges, but displaying a visible and very distinct temper line and without nicks, chips or rust. The unsigned tang has a single mounting hole with some spots of rust. The ray skin grip is wrapped in the traditional style with dark brown fabric which shows some surface soiling from handling. Beneath the wrapping are the standard toned gilt military menuki of three cherry blossoms. The tsuba guard is the solid style. The scabbard, with classic navy fittings, shows age, with scratches and scuffs, but it is complete and intact. Overall very good condition.
