Japanese Edo Period Tanto
$1,200.00
The tanto has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 20-1/2 inches, with a blade length of approximately 12 inches. The blade is generally bright, showing some minor spots, with pinprick blemishes, but overall the blade is in very good condition with a visible and distinct temper line. The silver habaki – collar shows patina with an etched “falling rain” design. The solid tsuba displays gilt decoration. The ray skin grip is wrapped in the traditional fashion with black fabric. Beneath the fabric on each side are menuki which appear to be resting dragons. The pommel and the ferrule are also decorated. The Kogatana knife, secured within a slot on the scabbard, also bears gilt decorations on the grip. The wood scabbard shows a crack on the underside, with the black scabbard paint being largely intact. Overall very good condition.
