WWII Japanese Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword with Tassel
$1,375.00
The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 40 inches, with a blade length of approximately 27 inches. The sword blade shows spots and speckling, as well pitting, particularly towards the tip on both sides. The blade displays a visible and distinct temper line. The tang has a single mounting hole and what appears to be a faint signature. The ray skin grip is wrapped in the traditional style with golden brown fabric, with the wrap showing soiling from handling. Beneath the wrapping are the standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms. The tsuba guard is the pierced style, with relief cherry blossoms. The tsuba has an impressed symbol and matching numbers on the seppa, tsuba, and fuchi. The scabbard locking button remains in the depressed position. The scabbard paint is mostly intact, showing scattered scuffs and spots. Attached to the top of the sword pommel is the brown and blue tassel of a Company Grade officer, with the tassel showing age but being complete and intact.
