Presentation Copy of “Sieg Uber Frankenreich” (“Victory Over France”) with Killed in Action Documents

$95.00

The group is comprised of a book and additional documents. The book is “Sieg Uber Frankenreich – Berichte und Bilder” (“Victory Over France – Reports and Pictures”), hardcover, with dust jacket, published 1940. The frontispiece has a presentation of “War Christmas 1940”, with a unit stamp and the signature of a Company Captain and Chief. The feldpost number on the unit stamp is “28762 C”. This feldpost number was assigned to the 7th Company of Army Infantry Regiment 104, which participated in the Battle of France. The book is approximately 6-1/2 inches by 9-1/2 inches, with 190 pages. The pages and the dust jacket show age toning, but the book is in overall excellent condition. Tucked inside of the book were several documents, which include a portion of an envelope that was sent by air mail in 1944 to Gefreiter Heinz Heutschel at feldpost number “24987 C”. This number was assigned to the 6th Company of Infantry Regiment 94 (later designated as Grenadier Regiment 94). The envelope had the feldpost numbered crossed out and it bears a stamp, dated in September of 1944, indicating that the letter was to be returned to the sender since the addressee had been killed in action. There is also in the group a black bordered condolence card that was sent to “The Family of Kurt Henschel” in Mannheim in July of 1944. The documents suggest that Gefreiter Kurt Henschel served in Infantry Regiment 104 in 1940, when he participated in the Battle of France and was presented with the book by his Company Commander, with Henschel subsequently being killed in action in the summer of 1944 while serving with Grenadier Regiment 94. Additionally, the group includes two unused Third Reich postcards, one of which advertises books about the war for sale, including “Sieg Uber Frankenreich”. The second postcard advertises for sale numerous Heinrich Hoffmann books about Adolf Hitler.
