French Foreign Legion Model 1946 Uniform and Kepi

$350.00

The uniform is comprised of the Model 1946 Jacket; the matching trousers; a green uniform short; green and brown neckties; and the Kepi Blanc, the distinctive white kepi worn only by the soldiers of the French Foreign Legion. The jacket has the correct “Legion Etrangere” brass buttons on the front placket and on the pocket flaps. On the left sleeve is the rank chevron of a Legionnaire Second Class, while a bullion and silk unit patch of the Legion’s 14th Brigade is present on the right sleeve. Affixed on the left shoulder is the fourragere of the French Croix de Guerre. On the shoulders of the uniform are the large epaulettes in red and green (the colors of the Foreign Legion) that are worn for parade dress occasions of the Legion. Found in the pocket of the jacket was a set of ribbons for medals, these being sewn to a black wool backing with hook attachments on the reverse, the hooks being marked “Depose”. There are no loops remaining above the left pocket for attachment of the ribbon set. The ribbons reflect the award of the Croix de Guerre for action in foreign operational theaters; the Cross for Military Valor, with stars reflecting mention in dispatches; the Overseas Service Medal; the Indochina Service Medal; and the North Africa Security Operations Medal, which would have been awarded for service in the Algerian Civil War. Also found inside of the jacket pocket was a small ring in gold colored metal. The Model 1946 Legion uniform was worn into the early 1970’s, and the uniform is in excellent condition, showing signs of wear and use but without holes, damage, or repairs. The kepi exhibits typical surface soiling, and most of the interior celluloid sweat shield is gone, but overall the kepi is in very good used condition.
