WWII Japanese Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword

The Japanese Army officer’s sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 40 inches, with a blade length of approximately 26-1/8 inches. The heavy blade is clean and bright with a visible straight temper line, and the tang shows some minor surface rust.  The tang of this blade has two mounting holes and it is unsigned. The ray skin grip is wrapped in the traditional style with brown fabric. Beneath the wrapping are figural menuki on each side.  The tsuba guard is the solid style, with relief cherry blossoms. The steel scabbard is in very good condition although the paint on one side is heavily faded.
