Japanese Edo Period Tanto

The tanto has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 19 inches, with a blade length of approximately 12 inches. The blade has a matte finish and, while the blade exhibits some scattered dark spots and small inclusions, the blade is generally clean and without nicks, chips, or active rust. The blade shows a narrow temper line on the cutting edge. The tang has a single mounting hole and it is quite dark, with some spots of surface rust. The ferrule and the pommel have subtle decorative designs. The grip has a sharkskin wrap and decorative menuki on both sides. The wood scabbard shows age and wear, but it is complete and intact.
