Published Japanese Army Model 1886 Field Grade Officer Award Sword

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 33 inches, with a blade length of approximately 27 inches. The blade is very bright, showing a few minor spots, but being generally quite clean and displaying a visible and distinct temper line. Engraved on the ricasso is the kanji symbol for “Award” of “Gift”, with the sword likely having been a military award piece. The leather covered grip remains tightly triple wrapped with brass wire. The guard and pommel display exceptional detail and reflect an uncleaned patina. The nickel plated scabbard shows a loss of much of the finish. The sword was published in a reference book on Japanese swords, and that page is included with the sword.
