Group of medals, ribbons and insignia attributed to Colonel Maxwell Bird, U.S.A. (Ret.).
Colonel Bird entered the Army in the 1950’s through the R.O.T.C. program. After serving in Germany he served as a military adviser in Vietnam in 1964-1965, and returned to Vietnam in 1968-1969 with the 1st Infantry Division. The medals and decorations include the following:
– Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters; Crimp broach marked HLP-GI;
– Bronze Star medal, slot broach;
– Air Medal, crimp broach, marked HLP-GI;
– Joint Service Commendation medal, crimp broach, marked LI-GI;
– Army Commendation Medal, crimp broach, marked LI-GI;
– WWII Army of Occupation medal, crimp broach, unmarked, lacking pin;
– National Defense medal, crimp broach, marked LI-GI;
– Armed Forces Expeditionary medal,crimp broach, unmarked;
-Vietnam Service medal, crimp broach, unmarked;
– Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal,1st class, theater made;
– Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, theater made.
– Ribbon set for all of the medals and decorations listed above, excluding the Legion of Merit, which does not appear on the ribbon set.The Bronze Star ribbon has four oak leaf clusters, the Air Medal ribbon has the number “2” on it, and the Vietnam Service ribbon has a single silver star. Additionally, there is a Presidential Unit Citation ribbon with clutch fastener system (clutches missing), a set of infantry officer collar insignia, and a Combat Infantry Badge by N.S. Meyer, lacking clutches.
All medals, decorations and insignia are in excellent condition.
