British King’s Royal Rifle Corps Second Lieutenant Patrol Jacket and Parade Dress Uniform Group

The group is comprised of of two uniforms of a Second Lieutenant of the British Kings Royal Rifle Corps from the late Victorian or early Edwardian eras. One uniform consists of the Mohair braid patrol jacket and trousers. The jacket is constructed of cloth with braided trim and bearing red accents on the collar and sleeves. The jacket features fine mohair braid trim with five toggle style front closures. The jacket has a rounded high collar with a neck fastener.  The shoulders exhibit braided epaulettes bearing Second Lieutenant rank pips. The matching trousers are of the same quality material with braided trim which travels the outside length of each leg. The trouser buttons are marked “E. Tautz & Sons” with the firm’s correct Oxford address. The uniform is very clean overall, with storage dust, scattered minor spots, and a small hole in the lower right sleeve near to cuff brand, and some light mothing that is not distracting and with the largest nip measuring approximately 1/4 of an inch. The jacket lining is excellent and without damage. The trousers exhibit interior wear, especially around the waistline. Overall the uniform set is in very good condition and it makes a fine appearance. The second uniform in the group is the Kings Royal Rifle Corps parade dress uniform. This uniform is of the same construction as the first uniform, but in parade design. The jacket features the same mohair braid trim with a five toggle button style front closure. The jacket has a rounded high collar with 1 neck fastener, while the shoulders carry braided epaulettes with second lieutenant rank pips. The jacket has a quilted lining. The uniform vest is equally impressive, with braided trim and red accents. The trousers match the configuration of the first uniform, with plastic buttons that are marked “Pulford” and which bear the correct address of the firm. An original tailor’s tag is located inside the waist and it bears the handwritten inked annotation of “Parade”. The uniform is very clean overall, with the trousers exhibiting some interior wear, especially around the waistline. The stitching at the inner end of the left epaulette has given way, and so the end of the epaulette is loose but can be easily tacked back in place. Overall the uniform is in very good condition.
