Named WWI U.S. Army Aviator Tunic with Italian Pilot Wing – Served With Italian Squadriglie 2a

The tunic is named to “Paton MacGilvary”, an American pilot of the Army Air Service who flew in Italy after training with the Italian Air Force. The tunic has First Lieutenant bars on the shoulders and officer “U.S.” and Air Service insignia on the collar. On the upper left breast is the bullion wing of an Army Air Service pilot, while on the left sleeve is the bullion wing of a pilot of the Italian Air Force. On the lower left sleeve are two bullion overseas service chevrons. The tunic has a few small holes in the lower rear and the US wing shows edge wear, but overall the tunic is in excellent condition and makes a very fine appearance. Paton MacGilvary was one of several American aviators who were stationed with Italian Air Force units in order to be trained and familiarized with the Caproni multi-engine bomber, with MacGilvary graduating from an Italian cadet program at Foggia in December of 1917 and being posted to Squadriglie 2a from June 1918 through to the Armistice.
