WWII Named Canadian 2nd Scottish MG Bn Medals, Documents, Insignia and Photograph Group

The group reflects the service in both World War I and World War II of Melvin Noah in the Machine Gun Battalion of the 2nd Canadian Division.  It provided machine gun support from landing craft during the Dieppe Raid in August 1942.  The group includes:

-Noah’s Pay books from the periods of both World War I and World War II.

-Medals for service in World War II: the 1939-1945 War Service Medal; The Defense Medal; the 1939-1945 Star; the France and Germany Star, with bar in its original envelope; and the World War II Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. The medals were all privately named to “Melvin Noah”, the engraving being on the backs of the stars and on the edges of the medals. The medals are contained within their original boxes with the name of the award stamped on the lids. The boxes show age, with some split corners, but they are complete. It should be noted that the lid of the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal bears the stamped designation of “CVSM & Clasp”. It appears that the clasp for this medal is in fact the bar that is contained within the envelope for a bar to the France and Germany Star. The group also includes a four place sew on ribbon bar for all of the medals except the 1939-1945 War Medal.

-The group includes a single Private chevron as well as two shoulder arcs for the “Toronto Scottish” Regiment as well as an additional formation patch.

-A linen award document for the War Service Badge, as well as the sterling silver, screw back, badge. The number on the reverse of the badge does not correspond to the number on the document.

-A photograph of Noah in battle dress, approximately 3 inches by 4-7/8 inches.

The items in the group are in overall very good condition.
