1864 Dated Model 1860 Cavalry Saber by Ames
The blade has a length of approximately 35 inches. The blade is generally bright, with some dark spots gray areas, and several nicks on the cutting edge, which shows signs of sharpening. The ricasso is marked on one side with “U.S.”, “C.E.W.” and “1864”, while the opposite side of the ricasso bears the somewhat worn manufacturer designation of the Ames Company of Massachusetts. The grip retains much of the leather cover, which is quite dry. The brass grip wire is intact. The pommel and guard all show a dark, uncleaned patina. The scabbard also retains a dark, uncleaned finish, with an indentation in the lower section on one side which does not affect the ability to draw the sword.
